Abstract
1,126,700. Coating by vapour deposition. UNITED STATES STEEL CORP. Dec. 17, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1965], No. 53686/65. Heading C7F. A strip 42 of e. g. steel is fed to a vapour deposition apparatus, where aluminium may be deposited, by rollers 25, 17, 26 which all have resin seals see Fig. 3 (not shown), at their ends while the rollers 25, 26 have spring (46) urged longitudinal seals 44 of copper impregnated graphite. The rollers are mounted in bearings carried by bars 22 pivoted at 20, and are urged together by springs 37, the roll gap being adjusted by screws 40. The assembly is mounted in a box 10, which is itself contained in a vacuum box, secured to the vapour deposition apparatus.
