Abstract

Material to be evaporated on to a moving band of e.g. paper, metal, plastics or glass is fed in the form of a wire 3 to a vapourizer 7 which may be heated by an electron beam, radiation or conduction, and the wire is moved across the vapourizer 7 in such a manner that more material is evaporated at the edges than in the middle. In addition the end regions of the heater may be heated more than the central part and the wire may be fed faster or thicker wire may be fed at these parts.
