[Also in Division A5] In an apparatus in which hair on the head or in a wig is set by winding the hair, while it is dry, on rollers and enclosing the head in a hood for treatment with steam to saturate and warm the hair and subsequently with heated air to dry the hair, the hood 10 is connected by a duct 12, hinged at 15 for limited pivotal movement, to a casing 14 which is mounted on a telescopic stand 16 provided with castor wheels. The hood is double-walled, a plastics lower part being inturned to form a perforated inner wall 30. The casing 14 houses a centrifugal fan 34, operated by an electric motor 36 to pass air over an electric heater 42 into the hood through the duct 12, and a water kettle 44, containing an electric heater, and passing steam into a pipe 46 which extends through the duct 12 and inner wall 30 of the hood, a baffle being provided to prevent scalding. A water reservoir 50 is connected by a non- return valve to the kettle and a warning light illuminates the reservoir when the heaters and fan are in operation. Control knobs 64, 66 graduated in minutes set timing devices for the production of steam and heated air, and control knob 68 sets a thermostat controlling the heat of the steam. A setting lotion may be sprayed on the hair after it has been wound on the rollers. In modifications, the steam is discharged into a telescopic duct, the apparatus is built into a wall-mounted cabinet or the fan, electric heaters motor and kettle are incorporated in the hood. The timing devices are operated by clockwork or electrically and the apparatus may be operated by a coin-release mechanism.
