Abstract
1,125,757. Treating moulding materials. LANDBOUWWERKTUIGEN-EN MACHINEFABRIK, H. VISSERS, N.V. 24 Sept., 1965 [9 Oct., 1964], No. 40820/65. Heading B3F. In a method of cooling castings and cooling and drying moulding sand, the moulds including the castings are stripped from their flasks, which have been partially cooled and are deposited in a rotatable drum 1, the rotation of the drum effecting by co-operation between the casting and the sand cooling and cleaning of the casting and the breaking up and drying of the moulding sand. The drum has an inlet shoot 3 through which the castings and sand to be treated pass, the portion of the drum adjacent the inlet providing a primary cooling zone. The intermediate portion of the drum is provided with perforations: 6 and as the sand and castings are moved, by means not shown, i.e. blades on the internal periphery of the drum, the cooled sand passes through the perforation 6 into a stationary discharge shoot 1. The castings are subsequently discharged through outlet 4 in the other end of drum. The area of perforations is adjustable by propositioning the location of band 9 within which the drum rotates. Additional cooling may be provided by air flow through the drum or spraying water from a pipe 8 positioned within the drum, the steam generated being removed via an outlet 5. The drum may be subjected to an internally reduced pressure.
