Abstract
1,125,439. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 21 Dee., 1965 [23 Dec., 1964], No. 52291/64. Heading H1T. [Also in Division H2] A tap changing polyphase transformer system for supplying both a main and an auxiliary load is so arranged and interconnected that operation of the tap changing apparatus to vary the voltage applied to the main load does not cause changes in phase of the voltage applied to the auxiliary load. A three-phase transformer 4 comprises phase windings A, B, C, each of which is divided into three sections 1, 2, 3 of which the sections 3 are provided with tappings 10-16. Tap changing switches are associated with the tappings together with a reversing switch 5 so that the voltage selected by the tap changing switches can be arranged to buck or boost the voltages of the winding sections 1, 2 in series. The main load is supplied from terminals 6, 7, 8 or 1A1, 1BI, 1C1, this being determined by a step-down on step-up of the transformer, the transformer supplying the main load in autotransformer manner. Further windings A1, B1 C1 connected in delta are wound on the core links containing the winding sections 1, 2, 3, the delta point of the windings being connected to the secondary windings 17, 20, 23 respectively of transformers 18, 21, 24 to provide output terminals 18A, 21A, 24A supplying the auxiliary load. The primary windings 19, 22, 25 of these transformers are each connected between two phases of the transformer 4 at the " inner " ends of the winding sections two, the winding 19 between points 26, 28, winding 22 between points 26, 27 and winding 25 between points 27, 28. The phase positions of the transformers 18, 21, 24 thus correspond to those of the delta connected windings such that voltage regulation of the system by the tap changing apparatus has no effect on the relative phase positions.
