Abstract
1,124,307. Measuring yarn &c. crimp. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 29 Oct., 1965 [30 Oct., 1964], No. 45817/65. Heading D1F. In a method of evaluating crimp angle and frequency e.g. for monitoring and/or controlling uniformily of crimp texture, crimped yarn or tow 10 is passed continuously through non- driven pretensioning rollers 12, in order to straighten out the crimp configurations therein but without permanent deformation thereof, thence through the nip formed between a pair of tensioning rollers 14 moving at a constant surface speed matching the mass flow rate of the yarn &c. and, before the yarn &c. passes into the nip formed between a pair of relaxing rollers 18 moving at a constant speed less than that of rollers 14, deflecting the yarn &c. by passing it partly around a tension sensing roller 16 to exert thereon a yarn &c. recovery force component proportional to the yarn &c. tension (itself proportional to crimp angle, frequency, modulus of elasticity of the fibre and surface speed ratio between rollers 14 and 18). The force on roller 16 is transmitted through linkage 20 and a force transducer 22 to a recording instrument 24.
