Abstract

1,123,345. Pipe unions. WALKER CROSWELIER & CO. Ltd. 10 Sept., 1965 [10 Sept., 1964], No. 37001/64. Heading F2G. A pipe union, particularly for use in connecting hot and cold water supply pipes to inlet ports 7 of a water-mixing fitting 8, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises two tubular externally-threaded spigots 4 and 5, which are in communication with the interior of, and project from opposite flat faces 2 and 3 of, a hollow body 1, the axes of said spigots being parallel to, and offset from, one another. The spigots are concentric with semi-circular end walls of the body such that the spigot axes are offset by the distance, preferably ¢ inch, equal to the difference between the length and width of face 2 or 3. Spigot 4 is shorter than spigot 5 and is provided with a root groove 12 to receive a rubber O-ring which seals the spigot in the port 7 of the mixing fitting when screwed therein. Said O-ring permits 180 degrees rotation of spigot 5 about the axis of spigot 4 so that the union enables a supply pipe to be coupled to the fitting inlet port through an offset hole in an appliance such as a sink, on which the fitting is mounted, for any hole/ port offset up to twice the offset between the spigots.
