Abstract
1,122,384. Dispensing beverages. PORTER LANCASTRIAN Ltd. 24 Nov., 1965 [25 Nov., 1964], No. 47865/64. Heading A4T. [Also in Division F1] In a beverage dispensing system having a diaphragm pump 2 supplied with beverage under pressure, the supply of beverage to the compartment 10 is opposed by a counter-pressure to prevent gas in the beverage coming out of solution and the supply of gas actuating the diaphragm 4 is terminated when a predetermined quantity of beverage has been dispensed. The pump delivery is under the control of a compressed air actuated tap and the supply of compressed air to the diaphragm 4 is controlled by the solenoid actuated valve 16. The tap is under the control of a solenoid actuated valve and this valve and the valve 16 are operated by means of a relay in an associated electrical circuit when the compartment 10 is full of beverage. The dispensing is terminated when spaced contacts on the spindle 6 actuate the relay in the associated electrical circuit. This electrical control may be as described in Specification No. 1,067,865. The counterpressure is applied to the beverage by throttling the exhaust of the compressed gas from the chamber 8 through the adjustable throttle valve 24 as the beverage enters the compartment 10 or by providing a spring between the diaphragm 4 and the pump casing or a dashpot connected to the spindle 6.
