Abstract

The chromium complex of 3-dicarbethoxy homogentisamido - 4 - (o - hydroxyphenyl azo) - 1-phenyl-5-pyrazolone is prepared by reacting 3 - dicarbethoxy - homogentisamido - 4 - (o - hydroxyphenyl azo) - 1 - phenyl - 5 - pyrazolone and chromic chloride in formamide. The carbethoxy groups are removed by potassium hydroxide and sulphuric acid treatment. The compound without the carbethoxy groups is used as a dye developer (see Divisions G2-G3).
