Abstract
1,121,812. Loading and unloading ships; endless conveyers. ORENSTEIN-KOPPEL UND LUBECKER MASCHINENBAU A.G. 2 Aug., 1965, No. 13590/68. Divided out of 1,121,811. Headings B8A and B8E. A conveying apparatus mounted on a ship comprises a gantry 9, Fig. 1, movable longitudinally above the holds of the ship, a bucket elevator supported on a structure 12 carried by the gantry, the elevator including an endless bucket chain 21, Fig. 3, extending round guide pulleys 22, 23, and an endless belt conveyer 26 extending beneath a straight run of the chain extending downwardly from the pulley 22 to the pulley 23, the chain being driven so that it runs from the pulley 22 to the pulley 23 and consequently material in the buckets is delivered to the conveyer 26. The gantry 9 travels on rails 8 and has rails 10, 11 on which runs the structure 12 carrying a driver's cab 13. The structure 12 has cheeks 15 which pivotally carries at 16 a support arm 17 so that the lower part of the elevator can be turned from the position shown in Fig. 3 to a raised position (34), Fig. 2 (not shown), above the holds. The elevator is turned by a spindle and nut device or an hydraulic ram 18 connected pivotally to the structure 12 at 19 and to the arm 17. The latter has pivotally connected to it at 28 an arm 29 which carries an elevator chain guide pulley 30 and is movable by a spindle and nut device or an hydraulic ram 31 so that the guide pulley 30 can be adjusted relative to a guide pulley 20 on the arm 17, e.g. for emptying the corner spaces of the holds. The conveyer 26 discharges on to a conveyer 36 which is mounted on the gantry 9 to be retractable and/or pivotable and/or movable vertically. The broken-line retracted position of the conveyer 36 is used when it loads the holds, the material being fed to the conveyer 36 by a conveyer 40. A tensioning guide pulley similar to the pulley 30 may be carried by the structure 12. In a second embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5, the conveyer 26 is longitudinally displaceable so that it can be alternatively used for unloading and loading the ship. When in the unloading full line position the conveyer 26 discharges into a hopper 43 of a carriage 44 which is movable longitudinally of the ship and guides in a loop 46, 47, 48 the belt of a conveyer 45 extending along the ship. At the discharge end of the conveyer 45 there is a discharge device which may be a conveyer similar to the conveyer 36 and at the other end there is a feed device. The material fed to the conveyer 45 is discharged at 50 into a hopper 51 feeding the conveyer 26 when this is in the loading broken line position.
