Abstract
A low pressure aerosol foam composition consists of a vehicle, a surfactant blend and a propellant, said vehicle being a mono-alcohol having one to three carbon atoms in the amount of 30 to 55% and water in sufficient amount in the concentrate to make 100%, said surfactant blend being present in amount of 0.4 to 5.0%, soluble at temperatures of about 6 DEG C. in said composition being a fatty alcohol having 12 to 22 carbon atoms combined with a non-ionic surfactant which is a polyethylene oxide derivative of said fatty alcohols, fatty acids, lanolin acids or lanolin alcohols, said propellant being present in amounts of 2 to 18%, being butane, monochlordifluoroethane, difluoroethane, trichloromonofluoromethane, dichloromonofluoromethane, dichlorodifluoromethane or tetrafluorodichloroethane, the pressure thereof being 10 to 40 p.s.i.g. at ambient temperatures. Preferred surfactant blends include ethers of sorbitan fatty acid esters and ethoxylated saturated C16- 20 fatty alcohols and ethoxylated lanolin alcohols. Optional additives include glycerol, polyethylene glycol, di- and tri-ethoxy oleyl ether and tetraethoxy lauryl ether, hexachlorophene, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, guaiazulene, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, menthol, allantoin and perfumes. Preferred surfactant blends include ethers of sorbitan fatty acid esters and ethoxilated saturated C16-20 fatty alcohols and ethoxilated lanoline alcohols. Optional additives include glycerol, polyethylene glycol, di- and tri-ethoxy oleyl ether and tetraethoxy lauryl ether, hexachlorophene, polyvinyl pyrollidone, guaiazulene, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, menthol, allantoin and perfumes. Examples are given of after-shave lotions, body fresheners and medicated skin products.
