Abstract
1,121,521. Fire-protective casings. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. 12 Jan., 1960 [14 Jan., 1959], No. 1444/59. Heading ASA. A container for protecting articles 1 from damage by fire comprises an inner shell 3 of rigid material, e.g. bonded and impregnated paper, and an outer jacket 2 of elastic and self-sealing material, e.g. naturally cured indiarubber. A fire extinguishing fluid, e.g. water-glycol mixture, is introduced into the space 5 inflating the jacket 2. If a hole is formed in the shell 3, the jacket 2 contracts, forcing fluid through the hole. An outer casing 8 may be made of woven fibre glass embedded in plastic material. A number of outer casings may be formed integrally or secured together. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) a number of jacketed containers may be housed in a common casing. The containers are used for storing bagged propellant charges in positions where they are liable to be hit by heated shell fragments.
