Abstract

A protective helmet shaped to cover the head, ears and nape of the neck, comprises a shell, of material such as moulded synthetic plastics material with glass fibre reinforcement, lined with an inflatable cushion preferably filled or partly filled with foamed synthetic plastics material and inflated by introduction of an inert gas such as nitrogen. The foamed material is bonded to both the cushion and the outer shell. The cushion may be formed of material tending to seal itself when punctured and may be permanently inflated or have a valved inlet aperture.
