Abstract
1,119,042. Collapsible masts, stud and socket fastenings. AXIS ENG. CO. PTY. Ltd. 10 Aug., 1965 [13 Aug., 1964], No. 34154/65. Headings E1B and E2B. A collapsible aerial mast comprises a series of telescoping tubes, the lower end of each tube such as 8, being guided within the next lower tube 7 by a sliding washer 22 on an extension member 16 secured in the tube 8. and adjacent tubes being locked in extended position by one or more balls 31 projecting through holes in the outer tube into a groove 20 in the member 16. The balls 31 are retained by a slidable collar 3 having an internal groove 14 whereby raising of the collar allows the balls to move outwardly to release the lock. On raising the collar on the first or lowermost tube 7. the second tube 8 falls until its collar strikes the first collar and is in turn released. The mast tubes thus collapse successively. The uppermost tube may carry a vertical rod and adjustable guy ropes, Fig. 1 (not shown). The lowermost tube rests rotatably on an insulating bush on a base plate or ground spike, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). The base plate may carry rubber pads for erection of the mast on a vehicle.
