Abstract

[Also in Division H1] In an electric switch having contacts actuated by a rotary cam 24, Fig. 4, alternative replaceable manual control spindles 53 of different lengths are readily inserted through an aperture 52 in the rear casing wall 33 and carry radially projecting spring 56 for driving engagement in radial grooves 47 of the cam 24 which is separately supported in the housing 10. The spindle 53 is located endwise by engagement of the spring 56 against a step 50 in the bore of the cam 24 and by an external split ring 75 engaged over a groove 76, Fig. 11, of the shaft arranged opposite a recess 66a in the switch cover-plate 11. The cam 24 has a recessed bore 36a located over a bush 43 of the coverplate 11 and is yieldingly held with its face 31 against guides 32 by a metal spring spider 37. The control knob 14 is pressed over the end of the spindle 53 and is retained frictionally by a bent spring 62. The spindle 53 has a pair of longitudinal grooves 54 serving to locate the springs 56, 62 against rotation and to register with a flat 66a and projection 66b on the knob 14. Each of the springs 56, 62 has a pair of arms 57, 63 arranged to clip over shaft 53 in circumferential grooves 55, 64.
