Abstract

1,118,451. Continuous casting. MANNESMANN A.G. 8 July, 1965 [8 July, 1964], No. 29075/65. Heading B3F. A wide casting 2 is supported, e.g. between the mould 1 and conveying rollers, by pairs of opposed rollers 4 each consisting of a number of aligned roller bodies on a stationary shaft 5; beams 6, which extend parallel to the rollers and support the roller bodies 4, being adjustable in a direction normal to the direction of casting travel. Each beam supports a roller 4 at its ends and between its component roller bodies. One body, at one end or the other of the roller, is half the length of the other bodies of that roller. Pairs of opposed rollers 4 are arranged in groups, the diameters of the rollers 4 being larger in successive groups in progression down the train of rollers. The beams 6 are supported resiliently on studs 8 projecting from the sides of support 7 adjacent the narrow sides of the casting. The distance between the rollers 4 of each pair is adjusted by the insertion of spacer rings, on the studs 8, between the ends of the beams 6 and the supports 7. Spring loading of the support rollers 4 is greater nearer the conveying rollers.
