The rolls, of which there may be two or four, define a pass, Fig. 5, such that helical ribs 14 are formed on the rod. Slots in the bottoms of the roll grooves also form transverse ribs on the rod. The rolls are adjustable towards and away from the pass line. Traction apparatus pulls the rod through the rolling apparatus and also through an initial straightening and pickling assembly.
