Abstract

A ferrous alloy of high magnetic permeability comprises:- <TABS:1118278/C6-C7/1> the balance, apart from impurities and incidental elements (e.g. Mg, Ce, Nb, Li, Na or Ba) being iron. The following heat-treatment may be used:- heat to 1550 DEG F. over three hours, increasing the temperature to 1725 DEG F. of 3 3/4 hours and keeping it there for 8 1/2 hours, cooling to 1375 DEG F. over 1 1/2 hours, isothermal treatment at 1325 DEG -1375 DEG F. for 8 hours and then air cooling.
