Abstract

1,116,985. Luggage case. J. SLAN. 11 Aug., 1965 [17 June, 1965], No. 34401/65. Heading B8P. [Also in Division E2] A luggage case lock housing 40 for mounting in an opening 70 in a case wall comprises a channel member having an upwardly extending end wall 52, a depending flange 53 and side walls 42, 43 providing flanges, at least one of the side walls being apertured for the passage of a latch tongue 32 therethrough, the upwardly extending end wall 52 being engageable with an outer surface of the case wall and the end flange 53 being bendable into engagement with an adjacent part of the inner surface of the case wall. As shown a luggage case comprises two half shells 11, 12, a frame 13 on the half shell 11 and a channel member 14 mounted on the frame 13. The member 14 comprises a flange portion 15 overlying the frame 13 and includes a planar portion 20. The half shell 12 includes a frame member 25 and a channel member 26 which is securely engaged in a channel portion 22 of the portion 20. Latching tongues 32 are provided which co-operate with lock assemblies located in the housing 40 by rivets 57, 58, the housing including a coverplate 60 and being mounted in an opening 70 on the portion 20 of the channel member 14 by insertion of the end wall 52 into the opening 70 so that a wall 60 of the cover plate abuts an edge 71 of the opening and by subsequently engaging the flange 53 in the open end of the opening 70 and bending the flange into engagement with the underside of the adjacent wall of the case.
