Abstract

1325302 Stud and socket fastenings P LANGDON 13 Nov 1970 [14 Aug 1969 17 Dec 1969] 40724/69 and 61540/69 Heading E2B A snap fastening member comprises first and second parts 1, 2, the first part including a boss 4 having an axial bore 5 therethrough and the second part having a hole 9 therethrough to receive the boss, the latter having a resilient flange 6, providing a shoulder 7. which is compressed by insertion of the boss into the hole to thereafter expand and engage a ledge 12 in a recess 11 of the hole to secure the two parts together; the length of the boss is such that it does not protrude from the second part when the two parts are secured together, and the boss is provided with a cutting edge 8 for cutting a hole through material 13 when the part 2 is snapped over the boss. In the construction shown the resilient flange 6 is of frusto-conical shape and extends to the end of the boss to provide the cutting edge 8. In a modification, Fig. 3, the boss has a ledge 15 provided with a cutting edge and which engages the ledge 12 of the second part 2 when the two parts of the member are first brought into engagement when the two members can be separated easily; in a second position, when the shoulder 7 of the flange 6 has engaged the ledge 12 separation is more difficult. The boss may be provided with two or more flanges 6, and the cutting edge may be formed by a metal insert.
