1,112,348. Recording apparatus. ASSOCIATED PORTLAND CEMENT MANUFACTURERS Ltd. Oct.4, 1966 [Oct. 5, 1965], No.42197/65. Heading G1J. A moving chart recorder comprises a chart transport unit 2 on which is slidably mounted a chart support member 5 for linear movement relative thereto according to one quantity such as time to be recorded and also relative to a series of recording elements 14 each having at least one pen 15, the chart transport unit 2 being movable from the normal operative position to a position in which the chart is clear of the recording pens to enable replacement of the chart when necessary, drive means 9 for imparting movement to the chart support member 5 according to said one quantity to be recorded, means for transmitting movement to the pens which is a function of the measurements to be simultaneously recorded on the chart, and means for rendering the drive means inoperative to allow the support member to be returned to start position. The drive means for moving the chart support member includes a feed screw 6 mounted in the unit and driven by a synchronous motor 9 and a nut 7 attached to the chart support member. The chart support member may be returned to the upper position either by hand or by means of a motor 12, the unit 2 being moved away from the pens for this purpose and the nut 7 being disengaged from the feed screw 6 or the feed screw being connected to the motor 12. The chart transport unit 2 is held in the operative position by means of magnets 4.
