Abstract
An electrolytic recording medium comprises a sheet impregnated with an electrolytically conducting solution containing a phenolic ether of the formula: <FORM:1111062/D1-D2/1> where M is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, with or without a hydroxyl, carboxyl or amino substituent, and Ra, Rb, Ro and Rd may be the same or different, and are each a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of one to six carbon atoms, a hydroxyl group or -ORe, where Re is an aliphatic group of one to six carbon atoms. Preferably the sheet is of paper and the solvent of the solution is water. The solution may also contain: a chloride, bromide, nitrate or sulphate of sodium, potassium, lithium, magnesium, rubidium or caesium as electrolyte; sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, citric acid, oxalic acid, phosphoric acid, tartaric acid or formic acid as acidifier; a salt of citric acid, oxalic acid, phosphoric acid, tartaric acid or formic acid as anti-fringing agent; and thiourea, an alkyl derivative of thiourea or dithiobiuret as a stabilizer. These media may be used for recording with an eroding anode. When the phenolic ether is of the formula: <FORM:1111062/D1-D2/2> the media may be used for recording with a non-eroding anode.
