Abstract
1,110,214. Pulse generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 23 July, 1965 [17 July, 1964], No. 29270/64. Headings H3P and H3T. In a circuit of the kind in which a pulse forming network PFN is discharged through an inductive load MC, the termination of the current pulse is accentuated by discharging the PFN into a charged capacitor C under the control of a pair of switching devices S1, S2. As described, in a circuit for controlling a synchrotron, the PFN is resonantly charged to twice the supply voltage via inductor L1 and rectifier D and discharged via the synchrotron magnet coil MC into the charged capacitor C when thyratron S1 is triggered. The auxiliary thyratron S2 is triggered by the trigger pulse fed to S1 after a delay at least equal to one transit time of PFN. An inductor LC is included to smooth the pulse top and a linear or voltagedependent resistor R2 is provided to damp out overshoot. In Fig. 10 (not shown) the capacitor C is charged to half the supply voltage. S1, S2 may be replaced by thyristors or gate turn-off devices.
