Abstract

1,109,571. Suspended ceilings. GEO. WHITEHOUSE & CO. (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. 21 Jan., 1966 [21 Jan., 1965], No. 2631/65. Heading E1W. In a suspended ceiling, longitudinal framing members 11 and transverse framing members 12 are secured together in alignment by pressstud fasteners 13, the complementary parts 16, 21 of which are secured to the end portions of the respective framing members. The fastener parts 16 are inserted in holes in the framing members whilst the fastener parts 21 are slidably mounted in slots 19, 25, which permits relative sliding movement between the ends of the framing members if expansion of the framing members occurs. When expansion occurs, the flanges 7 of respective aligned' interconnected framing members 11 are moved out of abutting alignment by a camming action between inclined end portions 20 of the slots 19 and the fastener parts 21 whilst the flanges 7 of transverse framing members 12 are lifted in relation to the flanges 7 of the members 11 by camming action between camming edges 29 and the bottom edges of apertures 26.
