Abstract
1,109,077. Valve bags. POLYPRESS N.V. 4 Jan., 1967 [6 Jan., 1966], No. 536/67. Heading B8K. [Also in Division B5] The upper end of a bag is folded and adhered along its end edge 6, Fig. 1, to the outer surface of the bag wall 1. Expansion of the bag, which occurs during filling through an aperture 7 in the wall, causes the wall to press against the folded section and so seal the aperture, Fig. 2. The bag may be made from thermoplastics or paper, covered with plastics, and the adhesion of the end edge 6 may be effected by welding or by adhesive strips. The bag is produced from a tube, formed of opposed sheets 1, 2, Fig. 5, joined at the side edges, supplied intermittently from a roll over a plate (10). A punch (11) co-operating with matrix 9 produces the aperture 7, and knife 12 cuts the tube into sections. After the end parts 4, 5 have been folded and adhered, the plate 10 is removed and the bag is sealed at its lower end 3.
