Abstract

1,108,522. Igniting burners. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. 7 Feb., 1967 [15 Jan., 1966], No. 1988/66. Heading F4T. In a gas burner ignition system gas from a supply pipe 1 passes via a duplex control tap 2 to a main burner 3 and by way of a valve 6 to a pilot burner 12 which has an electrical ignition element 10 connected in a circuit including a pressure sensitive switch 8 responsive to the gas pressure so that when the tap 2 is opened the gas pressure causes the element 10 to be energized to ignite the pilot burner 12 which in turn ignites the main burner. A chamber 7 containing a fluid such as air positioned near the main burner acts as a thermo-sensitive element and is connected to the valve 6 so that as the air expands when a flame is established at the main burner the valve is closed and the pilot light extinguished, re-ignition being initiated however upon failure of the main burner flame.
