Abstract

A chain link connector comprises a member 1 having semicircular ends 2 of circular crosssection and a boss 3 of substantially square cross-section, the end 4 of member 1 of square section having on opposite sides grooves 7, 8 and steps 5, 6 which co-operate with corresponding lands 16, 17 and grooves 14, 15 in opposed faces of slots in the head 12 of a member 10. A screw is inserted through bores 21, 22 in boss 3 to engage in bore 20 in member 10 to hold the members 1, 10 together. The members 1, 10 may be forged with or without subsequent machining so that the members have to be hammered together; the grooves and steps may be slightly tapered. In a modification, the shank 11 of member 10 may be a separate element, with the head 12 having a threaded bore engaged by a screw passing through boss 3 and element 11. Alternatively, the element 11 may have right-hand and left-hand threaded ends engageable in threaded bores in boss 3 and member 10 so that rotation of the element draws the two members together. The element may be screw threaded to a greater distance on one end than on the other, both being right handed; the longer end is screwed into member 1 and member 10 hammered into position to abut the short end, the element then being rotated to screw the short end into member 10 to hold the members together.
