Abstract

1,107,358. Partitions. UNITED STATES GYPSUM CO. 1 June, 1965 [10 June, 1964], No. 23379/65. Heading E1W. A sound-absorbing partition structure comprises two parallel rows of studs 16, 18, of channel- (as shown) or box-section, of steel, wood, or wall-board, the studs of one row being staggered equidistant between those of the other row, and three vertical partitions 10, 12 and 14, the central partition 12 being of wallboard. mineral-, or fibre-board, and the outer partitions of paper-covered wallboard or, e.g., plastered metal lathing. The spaces between the partitions may be filled with mineral fibre batts 32 or foamed plastics. The central partition 12 is glued or screwed to the studs, with the joints between and around the edges of the boards being caulked with a non-setting filler 7, and the outer partitions 10 and 14 are screwed to the studs and the floor and ceiling runners at their edges and glued to the intermediate studs, or are fixed to the studs by aluminium batten strips screwed to the studs. The outer partitions may have a plastics film, horizontal, and may be covered with strips 30 or finished with a tape and joint compound. The outer partitions may have a plastics film, e.g. of P.V.C., 0.0008" thick, glued thereto.
