Abstract
1,103,488. Cleaning heat exchangers. M. C. K. DE PORAY. 5 July, 1965 [3 July, 1964], No. 27643/64. Heading F2N. [Also in Division F4] A cylindrical tubular body 4 is inserted in each of one or more of a bank of parallel tubes 1 of a heat exchanger (e.g. a boiler) in which a first fluid (e.g. smoke) flows along the tubes 1 (in direction 3) and a second fluid (e.g. water) surrounds the tubes 1. In the form shown the body 4 has a reduced end 7 and a deflector cap 8 for directing pressure fluid (e.g. boiler steam or compressed air) from supply pipe 5 in the downstream direction 3 to enhance the flow of the first fluid and/or to clean the tube 1 internally. The body 4 may alternatively terminate at its upstream end in a coil tube having downstream directed orifices or in three cranked tubes having their outlet ends directed downstream (Figs. 2-4, not shown).
