Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A device for delivering measured quantities of liquid, such as molten metal, to a container, such as a mould 32 comprises a measuring chamber 34 movable on a tube 18 located within a liquid reservoir 11, the chamber being raised and lowered by means of a linkage 56, 57, 62, and 64 under the control of a ram so that the liquid may be dispensed via the tube into a trough 26. The link 56 is pivotally connected to the piston (48, Fig. 1) of the ram which is actuated via a valve 50 controlled through an automatic means 74. In operation, when pressurized fluid is fed to a ram, the piston moves downwardly thereby raising the chamber 34 to a height determined by the abutment of the lower end of the piston with the end of an adjusting screw 52. The liquid in the chamber then flows through the tube into the trough 26 until the level of the liquid in the chamber reaches the top edge of the tube. The trough is then tilted under the control of the means 74 so that the molten metal flows into the mould, the degree of tilt of the trough being limited by stops 28, 29.
