Abstract

1,100,328. Electrostatic precipitators. ELEX A.G. 22 Dec., 1965, No. 54420/65. Heading B2J. A corona-discharge electrode for an electrostatic plate precipitator comprises a tubular support 1, Fig. 1, on which are arranged arms 3, each arm being divided at its end into two corona-discharge tips 4 which are oppositely bent back from, and are oblique to, the plane of the arm. The arms 3 are welded to, or integral with the tube 1. Oppositely extending arms may be staggered along the length of the tube 1. In operational arrangement, the arms are in a plane parallel to the gas flow and to the collecting plates in the precipitator. In a modification, Fig. 3, the arms 6 are formed by making small grooves in the centre of fins or ribs located on the tube, sawing off portions of the latter from, the tube and bending them back, the tips 7 being also bent back from each other. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the tubular support is made up of two semicircular halves which are rivetted or spot welded together and the arms 9 are likewise rivetted or spot welded to the tubular support. The cross-section of the tubular supports may be oval or polygonal and may vary along the length of the support. The arms and the supports may be of different materials. The arms and the tips or the tips alone may be galvanised.
