Abstract

1,099,953. Thermal storage space heaters. WITTE HEIZTECHNIK G.m.b.H. April 14, 1965 [April 15, 1964], No. 16075/65. Heading F4U. In a storage heater having a cold-air bypass 1 joining the ends of a heating duct 5 in or around a heat-storage block 13, a throttling device 16 is provided in the by-pass arranged to provide flow apertures 16a, 16b adjacent opposite walls of the by-pass to cause mixing of the hot and cold air. As shown a plate 16 is mounted in the duct by-pass near the exit limb 5 for the hot air to form unstable eddies 18, 19 drawing hot air from the duct 5 downwardly. The plate 16 may be pivoted on a central horizontal axis or made telescopic to vary the size of the apertures. In a modification the throttling device is a wedge-shaped member with a rounded apex facing the oncoming flow. The side plates of the wedgeshaped member are pivotally adjustable manually or by a thermosensitive element in the air flow leaving the heater.
