Abstract

1,099,847. "Up-and-over" door assembly. WESTLAND ENGINEERS Ltd. Jan. 2, 1967 [Jan. 4, 1966], No. 362/66. Heading E2M, A non-articulated "up-and-over" door assembly has at least part of the weight of the door counterbalanced by tension means mounted on or adjacent to the door lintel, guide means attached adjacent to the upper corners of the door engaging substantially horizontal guideways extending inwardly of the door, and guide means attached adjacent to the lower corners of the door engaging substantially vertical guideways attached to the door frame, the guide means being so arranged that when the door is moved its base does not extend beyond the projected face of the lintel. As shown, door panel 2 is supported at each side by a cable 3, the lower end of which is freely secured to axle 6 supporting roller 7 which runs in guideway 8. The tension spring means 4 comprises a tension spring 13 in parallel with another (not shown), each spring having one end anchored to a peg 14 and carrying at its free end a yoke in which a pulley is mounted. The cables 3 pass over guide pulleys 15, wrap around their respective yoked pulleys and are anchored to pegs 16. When the door panel is closed, the tension springs are extended. The door is opened by applying a force which causes rollers 12 to move along guideways 10 and rollers 7 to move along guideways 8. The door may comprise more than one panel. The panels may be of imperforate or latticed form.
