Abstract
A razor blade is formed from a steel containing C and Cr in a weight ratio Cr to C of less than 30 to 1 <PICT:1099017/C6-C7/1> <TABS:1099017/C6-C7/1> the carbon content and the chromium content plus a half the molybdenum content plus a quarter of the tungsten content falling within the area A B C D E F A of the Fig. the balance, apart from incidental impurities, being iron. The thickness of the sheet from which the razor blade is made is preferably 0.05-0.5 mm. The steel may be cold rolled, heated to 1050 DEG -1125 DEG C. cooled to room temperature or lower and then has a cutting edge shaped thereon with an optional tempering at up to 400 DEG C. The steel may be tempered at 75 DEG -125 DEG C. after the cooling step above.
