Fittings 1, 2 for metal pipes and with an intermediate layer of electrical insulating material 3 are connected by mechanical forces so that a rigid coupling results and the parts are no longer separable without destruction. Relative rotation between the parts is prevented by polygonal or other non-circular or knurled zones of contact. The layer 3 projects beyond the parts to provide an increased electrical leakage path 4.
