Abstract

1,096,325. Valves. MULLARD Ltd. Oct. 4, 1966 [Oct. 28, 1965], No. 45721/65. Heading F2V. A closure member 2 co-operating with a knife edge seat 1 has at least that part of its surface which closes on the seat coated with a thin layer of gold, the layer being backed by a harder material, such as stainless steel. The thickness of the gold layer may be within the range of five to ten microns and be applied by electrodeposition from a solution of gold cyanide to which potassium thiocyanaide has been added. The layer is applied to a coating of nickel having a thickness of one half micron and the techniques of photo-engraving may be used to provide selective deposition or removal. The included angle of the kife edge may be 60 degrees.
