Abstract

1,095,754. Securing hubs on shafts. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 9, 1965 [March 24, 1964], No. 12397/64. Heading F2U. An electric motor rotor 1 is secured by its hub 2 to a shaft 4 by a split collar 3 frictionally contracted thereon by tapered cotters or dowels 6, 7 mounted in the ends of correspondingly tapered holes formed as through recesses in the mating external and internal surfaces of the collar 3 and hub 2 respectively, the tapered cotters 6, 7 being drawn together by tie-bolts 8 which freely pass through the cotters 7 and are screwed in the cotters 6, the cotters additionally serving to axially and rotationally positively key together the hub 2 and split collar 3. The tie-bolts 8 may be plain rods screwed each end to utilize separate collars and nuts 11, 10, or may be formed integrally therewith. A further collar 13 fast on each tie-bolt and an end plate 17 serve to assist removal of the tapered cotters when dismantling the assembly. A key (15 (Fig. 2, not shown) may be fitted between the split collar 3 and shaft 4.
