Abstract

1,094,681. Seed sowing machine. DOXAMS Ltd. and N. W. OSBORNE. June 1, 1964 [May 30, 1963], No. 21777/63. Headings A1B and A1D. A combined rotary cultivator 13 and seed-drill 14 comprises an adjustably mounted shield 17 which directs soil over a seed spreading device to cover seeds distributed thereby. Seed is fed from a hopper via tubes 15 on to a plate 16 which oscillates transversely of the machine to provide a substantially uniform distribution of seed on the ground. The plate may be grooved so that movement of the seed transversely of the machine is prevented. The plate may be removably mounted on the machine. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4) seed may be fed into a channel 29 and fed there along by an auger 26 to holes 27, and any seed not distributed is returned to the hopper e.g. by a second auger in channel 28. In another embodiment the channel has holes therein and a strip having similarly disposed holes is oscillated therein thus permitting discharge of seed when the holes coincide. The plate 16, auger 26 and oscillating strip may be driven from a land wheel via variable gearing.
