Abstract

A magnesium base alloy comprises .Rare Earth Metals.0.5 - 2.0% .Al.0.05 - 0.8% the balance, apart from impurities, being magnesium. The aluminium content must be no greater than the rare earth metal content. The alloy may be extruded from a ram extrusion machine at 10-90 feet per minute at a temperature of 399 DEG C. followed by ageing at 177 DEG -204.5 DEG C.
