Abstract
1,094,077. Orienting articles to be labelled; endless conveyers. MORGAN FAIREST Ltd. Sept. 14, 1966 [Oct. 19, 1965], No. 44128/65. Headings B8A and B8F. Jars to be labelled are first oriented so that a pip 3 on each lid is in a predetermined position corresponding to the proper positioning of a previously applied label on the lid. To this end the jar is rotated, as it is carried through the machine, by engagement with a fixed friction surface 10, and a flap 26, capable of yielding in one direction only, permits the pip to pass from one side of the flap to the other, but not to return, so that all the pips are ultimately aligned in contact with the inside edge of the flap. In the form illustrated several successive flaps 26, are provided, and the jars are conveyed by a screw conveyer 6 which determines their spacing. A guide rail 8 helps to hold the jars against the screw. The position of the flaps 26 may be adjusted. The jars are fed to the screw by a plate conveyer.
