Abstract
1,093,911. Coiling; twisting wires together. WAFIOS WAGNER, FICKER & SCHMID G.m.b.H. [trading as WAFIOS MASCHINENFABRIK WAGNER, FICKER & SCHMID]. June 4, 1965 [June 10, 1964], No. 23920/65. Heading B3E. [Also in Division B8] A deflecting surface 3, Fig. 1, causes a wire 102 or other binding material to be deflected round a group of articles, e.g. a coil of wire, a bundle of rods, to form one or more laterally adjacent circular windings; these are then tightened round the articles and the ends of the wire twisted together. In the embodiment a coil 100 to be tied is placed against an adjustable stop (57), Fig. 7 (not shown), so that the article is centred relative to the twisting axis of the machine. The operation, started by a foot switch, begins with a longitudinally slidable member (1), Fig. 2 (not shown), carrying the wire looping tools 3, 4 and 5, moving into position. Feed rollers 13, 14 feed a length of wire through guides 10, 6 between rollers 4, to the deflecting means 3, whose deflecting surface is adjustable in inclination to allow coils of varying diameters to be made. An adjustable switch on the feeding control causes the feeding rollers 13, 14 to stop when the required length of wire has been fed through. The slide is then retracted to release the loop so that it is held only by the wire extending to the supply. A twisting shaft 28 Figs. 8, 9 (latter not shown), carrying twisted tongs (17), (18), Fig. 5 (not shown), is then moved upwards and the tong arms (17), (18) are closed so that conical projections on the arms engage with each other within the circular wire loop, Fig. 3 (not shown). Simultaneously jaws 24, 25 are moved forwardly to the position in Fig. 8. The slide member (1) is then retracted and a cutter 7, mounted on the slide, cuts off the wire at the end of the guide 10. The wire loop is then drawn tightly round the articles by the downward movement of the twisting shaft 28 and at the same time the twisting jaws 24, 25 move towards each other to press into parallel relation the sides of the loop above the projections. The twisting shaft 28 and the twisting tongs (17), (18) are finally rotated to twist the ends of the wire together, Fig. 6 (not shown). Finally the tongs. (17), (18) open and the twisting shaft 28 moves back to its original position. Simultaneously the jaw 24 is retracted while the jaw 25 continues to move forwardly in order to bend the twisted ends of the wire towards the centre of the coil. If the length of the twisted end is too long, an additional cutter 8, acting against the jaws 24, 25, may be provided on the slide member (1), to out off the end of the twisted end.
