Abstract
1384209 Binding wire mesh mats E V G ENTWICKLUNGS U VER WERTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT mbH 7 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 27197/73 Heading B3E A method of binding together aligned, stacked wire-mesh mats 2, Fig. 3, comprises providing a hairpin-shaped wire directly above aligned mesh wires, lowering the wire over the mesh wires, and bending the wire beneath the stack of mesh mats using a binding head 5. The stack of mats 2 is placed on supporting arms 3 of a binding apparatus. The supporting arms and associated binding heads are pivotable about a column 4 using a working cylinder 6. A binding-wire feeder 7, vertically movable by a cylinder 8 can also be pivoted about the column by a cylinder 9. Behind the feeder 7 a wire magazine 10, Fig. 6, is provided which holds binding wires 13. Feed fingers 17 are used to push the wires 13 against a bending mandrel 16 and guard plates 14, 15. A slot in the feeder 7 is used to bend the wires around the mandrel to form hairpin shapes and the feeder can then be swung about column 4 to a position over the binding head 5 situtated below the stack 2. The binding head may comprise a twisting head 5a, Fig. 5, which may be rotated by a rack 21 and pinion 20 connected to a cylinder 22 to twist the ends of the hairpin wires together after passing them through bores 19. Alternatively, the binding head may comprise a bending die 5b, Fig. 9, which has guide grooves 24 for guiding the ends of the binding wire and then straps them into two hooks bent in opposite directions. In an alternative embodiment of the binding machine, Figs. 12, 13, 14 (not shown), the binding wire is withdrawn directly from a coil of wire (25).. A cutting device (30) is provided for cutting the wire to length. The feeder 7 and twisting head 5a form a common unit which can be swung about the column 4 by a working cylinder (31).
