Abstract
109,273. Hale, F. M. June 7, 1916. Projectile fuses.-Relates to safety-devices for time-fuses of grenades and the like of the type described in Specification 7636/15, and consists in providing the body of the grenade with an attachment on which is mounted a device normallv engaging with the external lever controlling the striker of the fuse, which device is caused by its inertia to lag behind when the grenade is discharged from a rifle and thus to release the lever. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the lever h is normally held by a socket 8 carried by an inertia ring 3 which is mounted, preferably rotatably, on a boss 1. The ring is partly split longitudinally, so that when the grenade is fired from a rifle, projections 6 on the ring can pass an annular projection 7 on the boss as the ring sets back. The socket 8 may be of open-work formation. Means may be provided to limit the rearward movement of the ring 3. In a modification, the part that is carried by the ring 3 and engages the lever h is an arm, which may be of channel-shaped cross-section. Specification 4925/11 also is referred to.
