Abstract
A cyanide-free, alkaline, bright zinc plating bath contains one or more polyamines, other known brightening agents and bath additives, and also, as separate compounds, thiourea and a thiocarbamic acid or a salt thereof. Suitable additions are polymines in amounts 0.5-15 grams/litre, thiourea 0.5-15 grams/litre thiocarbamic acid or its salt 0.2-20 grams/litre, benzaldehyde coumarin, vanillin, anisicaldehyde, salicylaldehyde or heliotropin 0.4-4 grams/litre; gelatine, gum arabic, tragacanth 1-2 grams/litre; octyl, decyl, lauryl and dodecylsulphonates 1-5 grams/litre. The zinc may be added as zinc oxide dissolved in sodium hydroxide.
