Abstract

1,090,875. Taps. FIRTH BROWN TOOLS Ltd., and W. H. CRISP. July 20, 1965 [Aug. 25, 1964], No. 34774/64. Heading B3N. A screw-cutting tap comprises two or more straight or helical flutes 1, forming lands 20, each of which has a high zone 5 intermediate the leading and trailing edges of the land. The zone may be high in relation to the leading edge only, and extending at constant radius to the trailing edge, or it may be high in relation to both edges. The tap nose is tapered, and the first full thread starts at a point 9. The body of the tap may be parallel, or may have a slight back taper, or it may be formed by a parallel portion followed by a back taper.
