Abstract
A built detergent composition comprising as active detergent a water-soluble 3-hydroxy-n-alkyl - 1 - sulphonate, 4 - hydroxy - n - alkyl - 1-sulphonate or S - hydroxy - n - alkyl - 1 - sulphonate or mixture thereof, the n-alkyl group containing from 10-24 carbon atoms, and a builder which is a water soluble inorganic or organic alkaline builder salt, the weight ratio of active detergent to builder being from 10:1 to 1:10. The preferred detergent is 4-hydroxy-n-hexadecyl-1-sulphonate. Many builder salts are specified and the composition may also contain water hardness salts such as calcium or magnesium chloride or sulphate, and other conventional additives such as perfumes, dyes, and carboxymethyl cellulose. Other detergents may also be added.
