Abstract

1,089,992. Silver halide nucleating and developing solution. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Nov.16, 1964, No. 56422/66. Divided out of 1,089,991. Heading G2C. An aqueous alkaline processing solution for use in the process of Specification 1,089,991 comprises a silver halide-nucleating boron compound and a silver halide developing agent which is a 1, 4-dihydroxy benzene soluble in said solution which has a side chain containing a chain of at least 4C atoms substituted in the nucleus. Specified boron compounds are alkali metal borohydrides, aliphatic amine boranes, arylamine boranes, cyclic amine boranes, hydrazine and ethylene diamine diboranes, aliphatic and aryl phosphine and stibine boranes and borazoles. Many are listed. The solution may be made alkaline by alkali metal hydroxides and quatenary ammonium hydroxides to at least pH 10. Specified 1,4-dihydroxy benzene developers are alkyl hydroquinones, 2, 5-dihydroxy-n-octano-, nonano-, and decano-phenone, 2-n-octyl hydroquinone-5- sulphonic acid sodium salt, 2-(sec-octadecyl) - 5-(sulpho-t-butyl) hydroquinone sodium salt, 2-(4-(3, 5-disulphobenzamido)) phenethyl hydroquinone, disodium salt and 5-(4-(3, 5-disulphobenzamido)) phenethyl -2-methyl hydroquinone disodium salt.
