Abstract

A composite filament made of two differing acrylonitrile based polymers is wet-spun and stretched and then mechanically crimped by a stuffing box, using a pressure of 1.5 kg/cm2 and a nip roller pressure of 2.0 kg/cm2. The filaments are adjusted to a moisture content between 60 - 120% based on the weight of the dry filament, and then heated in a relaxed condition. Such filaments may be made into a spun yarn which is then made into hanks and dyed. The degree and number of crimps, bulkiness and hand of specific filaments and yarns of this type are given.
