Abstract

1,086,440. Selective printing. SIEMENS A.G. Dec. 10, 1965 [Dec. 11, 1964], No. 52533/65. Heading B6F. Teleprinters having a movable type print or character selector quadrant carrier 1 movable along the printing line on a guide rail 2 which is displaceable vertically with the quadrant carrier are provided with a type fount or case shift mechanism for shifting of the carrier vertically into one of three type founts or case positions. Case shift is effected by an electromagnet 9 mounted on a guide rail 3 for concomitant movement with the quadrant carrier 1 and provided with an armature plunger 8 which operates a bell-crank lever 7 fulcrumed on a shaft 5a of one of the rollers 5 forming the carriage 4 for the electromagnet 9 and articulated to a coupling lever 10 which in turn is articulated to a locking selector quadrant 11 to displace the latter angularly which effects vertical displacement of the selector quadrant carrier 1 and its rail through one of the three type fount or ease shifts. Accurate adjustment is maintained by a second lever 13 which forms a parallel linkage with the lever 10. In another embodiment the coupling lever is articulated directly to the armature plunger of the electromagnet 18, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the lever 13 is articulated to the electromagnet core. In a further embodiment the lever 23, Fig. 4 (not shown), is provided with a guide slot 23a and its end terminates in an adjusting cam 23b to serve as a guiding system for the case shift mechanism.
