Hand stamps are held in a box 1 in rows and so that the total cross-sectional area of the stamps is substantially equal to the available cross-sectional area within the box, each stamp having a handle portion movable with respect to its frame into and out of a position enabling the stamp to be easily gripped and withdrawn. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, each stamp comprises a casing 5, 6, a printing member 4, strips 7 connecting the member 4 with a key or handle 3 and a spring 8 interposed between the casing 5 and the key 3. When not in use, the printing member 4 is held against the force of the spring 8 just clear of an ink pad on the box base by a pivoted latch 10 engaging a pin 9 on one of the strips 7. If now the key 3 is slightly depressed and then released, the pin 9 disengages from the latch and rides on its upper face, the key 3 now being well above the upper edge of the box for easy removal of the stamp. The keys of different stamps may have different lengths to make selection more easy (Fig. 7, not shown). In another construction. Fig. 6 (not shown), each stamp comprises a hollow frame with the printing member fixed at one end, the other end having a pivoted finger piece or handle which is normally within the frame but can be pivoted outwardly when it is required to extract the stamp from the box.
